NGOs are non-governmental organizations and play important role in upholding humanitarian services in the society and there are many NGOs undertaking brilliant work in different fields like human rights, environmental, or development work. India is likely to have had around 2 million NGOs operating in 2009, just about one NGO per 600 Indians.

Charity means generosity to help the poor or deprived by giving something with kindness and a charitable trust is a non-profit institution and can also be a non-governmental organization that funds to help the needy.

There are many charity trusts and NGOs functioning across the world that are established for different purposes like to empower and educate underprivileged children from slums, adopt and support orphan children, take care of old people, empowerment of visually challenged, support victims of natural disaster or calamities, medical relief  for the poor, and many others.

Charity trusts are setup by regular citizens and sometimes funded by governments, businesses, or foundations, while some trusts are run by volunteers who avoid formal funding completely. Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) are highly diverse group or organizations engaged in wide range of activities and take different forms in different parts of the world. These activities might include human rights, environmental, or development work and the level of operation of an NGO’s indicate the scale at which an organization works such as local, regional, national, and international.

These diverse organizations with non-profit status are not held up by short-term financial purposes to devote themselves in prevention of diseases and to issues that occur like climate change, global ban on landmines, and etc.

Charitable trusts mostly follow the family-line and include NGOs with activities in helping the needy, and participating in activities like provision of health, family planning, or education services. These trusts also actively participate in contributing cash, tools, land, materials, labor etc. They also enable in implementing a clear understanding of the social, political, and economic factors among the poor and needy that affects their lives.

NGOs are organizations, which work in many different areas but it generally works for social restoration and improvements in quality of life. There are NGOs that are highly visible sector and have branches both international and local especially those working in philanthropic sector. Many NGOs also accept international aid and voluntary donation but some NGOs produce fund selling handicrafts or organizing events.
